In order to post on this blog, it is necessary to sign in and to do that they assign you a blog title. I used post on a BLOGGER site set up by CapnAmerican and CF. I named my "blog" "Junket to Niger" in honor of a certain V.P. I put a couple of photos of that country which clarified what a "junket destination" that Niger most likely was not. Then never went back to it. That was my way around "the man" - there may be others. Share them, if you know about alternatives.

As KFG has shared in an email, we are NOT after "moderation" at the WE Blog, but instead wish to see the anonymous TROLL PROBLEM there addressed. Inviting graffitti sprayers is not the same as asking for debate. Tracy put it quite well:

"And who are ya' even arguing with? Truth is, you have no idea, but unless it's the same person with the same nic every time, why even bother? You're talking to graffitti as far as I'm concerned. And let me reiterate that this is not about any one person or troll. "

CapnAmerica has suggested a letter of protest/request that should be sent to the WE editors:

Dear WEBlog editors:
Thank you for setting up this public blog in which readers can post their views. It is an excellent concept.But in practice, it needs serious improvement. As it is now, a poster can steal people's nicknames and seem to make them say things totally contrary to their beliefs. This has resulted in many misunderstandings and angry responses. A poster can use a variety of nicknames and seem to be more than one person. Because nic-switching is so easy, any check on the truth of what a "pop-up" poster is saying is virtually impossible. Profanity, racial and ethnic slurs, homophobic rants, and insults of the most vile nature are hurled with impunity. Some posters have even followed through on trying to meet another who has offended them . . . and it wasn't to shake hands.The Eagle must take more responsibility for the monster it has created. It could monitor IP addresses and ban trolls and nic-switchers. It could pull posts that are profane or racist. It could ban posters whose intention is only to insult and annoy.We the undersigned have opted to boycott the WEBlog as a demonstration of our desire for change in the way the WEBlog is managed. We look forward to time when the WEBlog can be as edifying and educational as it was meant to be.
